Let B denote a closed subalgebra of L ∞ containing H ∞ . Let Q B = B ∩ B ¯and let QA B = QB ∩ H ∞ . We study ideals in QA B which inherit properties from ideals in QB . We answer the following question. When is a prime ideal in QA B the trace of a prime ideal in QB ? We also study a similar question for closed ideals in QA B . Several results about finitely generated ideals are also included in this paper.
