This paper presents some of the important lindings on the atmopsheric fine FP (particle with aerodynamic diameter, da 2.5um) and coarse particles, CP (2.5 um da 10 um) concentrations collected from July 1988 to December 1990 using a dichotomous sampler sited at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. Results showed that the mean FP and CP particle concentration was 35.4 and 14.2 μg/m3, respectively, with 40% of the daily total particle, TP(i.e TP = FP + CP) concentration samples exceeded the 50 μg/m3 annual mean guideline limit. On average, the FP constitutes 71% of the TP concentration measured at the site. Elevated particle concentrations were observed to be consistent with the frequency of calm conditions and wind direction which uggests that both there the important factors influencing the quality of air in the area.
