This paper explores the most ethnically diverse and mixed spaces in England. We define multi‐ethnic neighbourhoods as spaces where no one group is in a majority and at least five ethnic groups have representation. Their growth is an important marker of increased inter‐ethnic contact, yet we know very little about their spatial extent and the dynamics of their expansion. Using Census data for 1991, 2001, and 2011, we reveal that multi‐ethnic neighbourhoods are surprisingly stable, and increasingly so.
