An improved informed consent process consisting of providing children ≥ 7 years with standardised research information, viewing a video and taking part in extended group discussions resulted in 71% achieving a satisfactory understanding score and all giving consent to participate in the research. HIV-disclosed children were more likely to demonstrate satisfactory understanding than undisclosed children. 294–303
