The United States passed a number of historic laws in the 1960s to address civil rights and racial equality on matters ranging from employment to voting, housing, and immigration. This special issue commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of these legislations' passage. Articles in the issue assess the historical events, political goals, and consequences of the civil rights era laws.
