A randomized trial in 160 HD patients in 17 dialysis units evaluated the effect of dietary education on compliance with sodium restriction. Intervention consisted of 1) six educational PowerPoint modules using a laptop computer 2) 22 face to face meetings with a study dietician over 16 weeks 3) diet monitoring by patients using meal logs and a handheld computer. At 16 weeks there was no apparent impact of the program on interdialytic weight gain or salt intake.
