Nicola Bellé’s article “Experimental Evidence on the Relationship between Public Service Motivation and Job Performance” is insightful and provides an evidence-based understanding of staff work motivation and job performance in public sector organizations. Th e article suggests that the values of staff who work in public service infl uence behavior. Th e sound conceptual foundation shows the individual but related contributions of activities and mandate characteristics to job motivation and performance of staff in the public sector. Th is also holds true in international public service organizations or intergovernmental organizations (IGOs), where staff generally are more motivated to perform their job when they clearly understand the challenging tasks that they consider are important and attainable.
