Purpose To compare the prevalence and predictors of depression in T aiwanese and A merican older patients with arthritis. Design and Methods A secondary analysis was conducted to assess 151 T aiwanese and 70 A merican arthritic patients in T aipei, T aiwan and C hicago, USA . Findings The prevalence of depression of T aiwanese and A merican older arthritic patients was 34% and 40%, respectively. Depression was explained by life satisfaction and functional ability in T aiwanese patients, and by life satisfaction and level of pain in A merican patients. Practice Implications Nurses should assess patients' level of pain and functional ability, as well as their life satisfaction and depression.
