The articles in this special issue of Peace & Change originated as papers presented at an interdisciplinary conference on “World War I: Dissent, Activism, & Transformation.” Hosted by Georgian Court University and co‐sponsored by the Peace History Society, the conference was held on October 17‐18, 2014, in Lakewood, New Jersey. Written by the conference organizer, this Foreword explains the origins of the conference and summarizes the articles and interviews that appear in this special issue.
