Why has K orean migration policy been ethnicized? This research mainly aims to explain ethnic preference in K orea's immigration policy through the lens of K orean nationalism. The influx of ethnic K oreans in C hina (or Joseonjok ) since the early 1990s has created a new dilemma for the S outh K orean government, which has long claimed to be the only legitimate polity of the K orean nation. The discrepancy between the legal citizenship and ethnicity of the K orean– C hinese workers in K orean society has forced the K orean state to redefine both legal and discursive national boundaries. This study analyzes the bifurcation of the K orean state discourses regarding K orean– C hinese workers in K orean society.
