Lophozia fuscovirens is described as a new species from the southern part of the Kolyma Upland (Russia, northeast Asia) based on results of integrative research including a phylogenetic reconstruction based on ITS1‐2 + trn L‐F sequences. The species is characterized by brown gemmae – a rare feature within Lophozia s.s. A description and illustration of the new species are provided. The origin of L. fuscovirens may be correlated with the long continuity of open landscapes with a relatively wet climate at the southern portion of Megaberingia. The new species may thus be regarded as evidence of speciation originally triggered by glaciations and still going on in the suboceanic‐subcontinental subarctic landscapes that were formed in the Pleistocene.
