Amomum hainanense sp. nov., a new species of the genus Amomum (Zingiberaceae), is described and illustrated from the Hainan Province, China. The species is closely related to A. repoeense and A. plicatum, but can be distinguished from the latter by being less tall and having few flowers that are open simultaneously (only two), a membranous ligule and 6–8‐winged fruit ridges (not 9‐winged). The species is known only from Hainan Island.
