Orchidantha insularis (Lowiaceae) has been rediscovered around Mt Diaoluo, Hainan Island, China, for the first time since the type gathering by F. C. How in 1935. A revised description of the species is presented, and especially its inflorescence was found completely different from the original description. Pollen and seed characters are reported for the first time, and are found to be similar to those of the two relatives O. chinensis and O. chinensis var. longisepala that occur in mainland China. In addition, the chromosome numbers of these three taxa are also discussed.
