A 68‐year‐old woman presented with a 1‐month history of appetite loss and weight loss, followed by vertigo and a decreased level of consciousness. A diagnosis of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) was made, and treatment of DKA was initiated. Her level of consciousness gradually improved, but time‐related disorientation as well as recent memory disturbance persisted even after a decrease in the level of blood glucose. Brain MRI demonstrated vasogenic edema in the left medial temporal lobe. Vasogenic cerebral edema during the treatment of DKA should be considered not only in children and young adults, but also in elderly patients.
