This chapter serves as a summary to the monograph. The main purpose is to concisely merge the individual chapters into a cohesive summary around markers of health behaviors and their relation to childhood cognition and brain health. In addition, future directions for research in this area are briefly discussed with the goal of shaping future research in several directions. Issues surrounding the need for causality and ethical considerations are also described. Finally, this chapter places the link between health behaviors and cognition within the greater context of the educational environment, lifelong health, and effective function.
