Suppressor genetics identifi es an endolytic transglycosylase (MltG Spn ) involved in peripheral peptidoglycan synthesis in Streptococcus pneumoniae . Superposition of the YceG domains of MltG Eco (orange) and MltGSpn (blue) reveals conserved positioning of the catalytic glutamate and a tyrosine residue (Y488 of MltG Spn ) altered in a selected suppressor strain. For details, see the article by Tsui et al . on pp. 1039–1065 of this issue.
