Benzamides are potent FtsZ inhibitors and lead compounds for antibiotic development. A complex of Staphylococcus aureus FtsZ bound to the benzamide PC190723 (PC) and GDP (PDB 3VOB) is shown with amino acid substitutions that lead to PC‐resistance (orange) and PC‐dependence (red) highlighted.
