Perioperative bleeding is a common complication following major surgery. Despite surgical measures to minimize bleeding, patients develop acquired hemostatic defects due to multiple factors that include hemorrhagic loss, consumption, dilution of coagulation factors and platelets, hypothermia, acidosis, and activation of fibrinolytic and inflammatory pathways.
