Sporidia of the phytopathogenic fungus Ustilago avenae were treated with the systemic fungicides triadimefon, nuarimol, and imazalil‐nitrate and examined with the scanning electron microscope. As compared to untreated controls, where cells were generally unicellular and uniform in shape, treated cells exhibited abnormal growth, showing rounded cells and distortions of cell division by forming branched and extensively elongated sporidia. Enhanced septation was especially typical for the triadimefon‐ resp. nuarimol‐treated sporidia.
