BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Compression of the median nerve at the wrist is one of the most common disorders of the peripheral nerve system Histologic investigations are characterized by epi‐ and endoneural edema, proliferation of fibroblasts and perineural and neural shrinking Local pathological processes as rheumatoid arthritis, amyloidosis or ganglia are less common causes, whereas carpal tunnel syndrome is most often due to excessive use of the hands.
