Transient ischemic attacks are an important and common neurological problem. As harbingers of stroke and markers of vascular pathology, they paradoxically serve the useful purpose of identifying patients at increased risk of permanent injury. Consequently, they have been the subject of much study (sadly, mostly uncontrolled study).
