Front cover: Hyperinsulinemia associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus increases the risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease and both diseases share similar age‐related etiologies including amyloidogenesis. Since we have previously demonstrated that soluble β‐amyloid42 elicits glutamate release, we wanted to understand how diet‐induced insulin resistance alters hippocampal glutamate dynamics in cognitively normal C57BL/6J and AβPP/PS1 mice predisposed to AD pathology. The current study highlights elevated hippocampal glutamatergic neurotransmission associated with a diabetic phenotype, which may serve as an early therapeutic biomarker for AD progression. Image Content: Images depict ethidium bromide fluorescent Nissl stain (red) of the hippocampus proper co‐stained with Amylo‐Glo for amyloid plaques (bright blue) present in AβPP/PS1 mice.Read the full article ‘ Diet‐induced insulin resistance elevates hippocampal glutamate as well as VGLUT 1 and GFAP expression in Aβ PP / PS 1 mice’ by E.
