Front cover: Background: Transfer RNA (tRNA) plays a role in stress response programs involved in neurological diseases. Under cell stress conditions, intracellular tRNA is cleaved by a specific ribonuclease, angiogenin, generating tRNA‐derived stress‐induced RNA (tiRNA), which has potential cell protective effects. However, tiRNA generation in neuronal cells has not been fully elucidated. Main findings: We found that tiRNA is induced by various cell stresses, including in vitro ischemia‐reperfusion, via angiogenin‐mediated mechanism in PC12 neuronal cell. Implication: Detection of tiRNA could be used as a potential cell damage marker in neuronal cells. Image content: Cover image shows a micrographic image of the PC12 cells.Read the full article ‘ Stress‐induced tRNA cleavage and tiRNA generation in rat neuronal PC12 cells ’ by A. Elkordy, E.
