Diurnal leaf movement, named nyctinasty, has been of great interest to researchers since Darwin's time. In this issue, Kong et al. (pp. 1880–1894) report that leaf movement is orchestrated by clock gene MtLHY in a legume species Medicago truncatula , which is also influenced by the availability of nitrogen produced by the nodules in an MtLHY dependent manner.
