Knowing that recurrent kneeling during prayer can cause repetitive motion injury but also that the spiritual enrichment can banish the strain I contemplated remedies for my aged soul when face to the ground during proning I would be reminded of looming mortality And the assault of deeper isolation But with each flip the turning team moved my thoughts toward life with their jokes about massage tables and tanning beds and smoothing my wrinkles as I lay face-down and the team’s empathy permeated protective masks while lulling voices conjured images to reassure as warm hands overturned disquiet with soothing motions confident that induced slumber on my belly could fix the cadence of my breaths as the position harvested more from each one and my eased mind dozed with little discomfort in oblivion misery cast out by indelible impressions of kindness and relief among lights and syncopated beeps as I heard and felt their seamless concert my soul left unscathed
