We address the praxis of writing a family theories textbook in the contemporary context of teaching and learning with digital natives. We examine how a feminist, critical, and intersectional perspective on the diverse nature of family experience guided our choices of the classic and emerging theoretical, empirical, and practical exemplars we included. We also address the challenges in writing about the esoteric topic of family theories, including the increasingly prolific scholarship of family theorizing and the need to keep pace with our multimedia‐savvy students.
