Summary Length‐weight relationships were determined for three fish species [ Bregmaceros rarisquamosus Munro, 1950; Sardinella albella (Valenciennes, 1847) and Cynoglossus macrolepidotus (Bleeker, 1851)] inhabiting the coastal of Hainan, China. Fishes were collected using gillnets (mesh size 0.5 cm) and electrofishing from 2005 to December 2012. The b‐values of the equations ranged between 2.57 for Bregmaceros rarisquamosus and 3.34 for Cynoglossus macrolepidotus and thus were just inside the acceptable range for this value. Further, for B. rarisquamosus a new TL max was recorded.
