Summary During sampling efforts to study the more abundant A tlantic sturgeon, A cipenser oxyrinchus oxyrinchus , between May of 2009 and November of 2011, four shortnose sturgeon were captured in gill nets near the mouth of the S aco R iver, Maine. Two of these individuals were tagged with acoustic transmitters to monitor their movement within the S aco R iver. Additionally, six shortnose sturgeon that had been tagged with acoustic transmitters in the M errimack R iver, Massachusetts were detected on the acoustic array deployed within the S aco R iver and its estuary over this time period. These incidences represent the first verified documentation of shortnose sturgeon within this estuary.
