  The money worm has burrowed into museum foundations in the last five decades, weakening structures already challenged by power politics, relevancy issues, and contemporary anxieties. Half a century ago, however, museums were an amenity, a benign pleasure—and free! Here is a personal recollection of a collective journey, in which progress might best be measured by what can't be measured.
