In his excellent introduction, Giyoo Hatano identifies several key issues for research on everyday science. I shall take up three that he mentions. First, why should there be distinctive disciplines in everyday science? Second, how can work on informal expertise be linked to work on conceptual development? Finally, are we inherently more prone to error in tackling certain disciplines? I shall amplify some of my remarks by mentioning research on another discipline of everyday science—folk psychology.
