In response to James (1992), further material is cited, both empirical and theoretical. The former is supportive of the pre‐pregnant personality of the mother being related to the sex of the child conceived, and the latter is supportive of the post‐pregnancy personality of the mother being relevant to the psychological development of the child as seen in very early mother‐infant interactions. Suggestions for future research are offered.
