Perhaps the biggest problem preventing more widespread use of computers in guidance is the effort required to collect, update and maintain the occupational data base. This paper critically reviews the process of transferring the data from source to computer, and describes an on‐line interactive method whose design aims include ease‐of‐use, generation of error‐free information, and independence for the counsellor.
