This article considers some of the current issues in the methodology of research evaluation in the managerial psychology and training fields. The purposes and functions, ethics and values, and philosophical and theoretical frameworks of evaluation are all explored. Finally, a number of practical problems of evaluation methodology are examined in the light of recent thinking about research design.
