Initially it is shown how the calculations involved in tests of association on contingency tables can be expressed in terms of matrix algebra. Several advantages which follow from doing so are then described and illustrated. The problem of estimating correlation coefficients between attributes which have truncated distributions is considered, and the paper concludes by comparing the results from two different populations.
