A procedure is explained for the construction of preference tables which set out in a systematic scheme the results obtained by using the method of ranks, paired comparison, or some other type of multiple comparison; and the detailed properties of such tables are described. Such a table may be used to exhibit the dispersion of objects in a multi‐dimensional space of individuals' preferences or the dispersion of individuals in a space of preferences for objects; and the two devices are shown to be complementary. Methods of analysing and studying tables of this kind are discussed and illustrated.
