French & Richards (1990) drew attention to the unexpectedly high anxiety scores reported in Beaton & Moseley's (1984) study of anxiety in relation to handedness. The data of that study are reanalysed and the correct scores are shown to be comparable to those of French & Richards (1990). The reanalysis confirms the conclusion of Beaton & Moseley (1984) that handedness and anxiety are not related. Further analyses of the pattern of responding to questionnaire items provide no support for the view that extreme left‐handers and extreme right‐handers differ in their endorsement of ‘desirable’ or ‘undesirable’ ‘extreme’ items on questionnaires.
