Research indicates that evaluative word meaning and denotative meaning (imagery) are distinct mediational mechanisms and can be conditioned. It is hypothesized that the meaning‐responses can be conditioned concurrently and independently. The present study factorially varied the unconditioned stimuli for each conditioned mediational response. Results provide support for the hypotheses and additional knowledge concerning the nature of both learning mechanisms.
