Communication theory is properly applied to human performance only under certain conditions: for example, application must be made by an outside person and not by subject himself. theory also requires averages of numerous events rather than dealing with isolated ones. Given these and similar conditions, some useful and valid applications may be made to psychology. It is perfectly possible to apply theory in case in which stimulus and response are continuous functions of time, although this is not always realized.
