S ummary . This paper reports a two‐part study of motor impairment in boys with moderate learning difficulties. In the first part, the performance of a group of intellectually retarded boys from a special school was compared to that of a group of boys of the same age from ordinary schools on the Test of Motor Impairment. Significant differences between the groups were obtained, indicating that the boys with learning difficulties were less well co‐ordinated. The second part of the paper reports the relationship between the retarded boys scores on the TOMI and their scores on two other measures of motor performance. A strong relationship was demonstrated.
