S ummary . To determine whether the rules children use in drawing tasks influence their performance on other spatial tasks, 120 children in kindergarten, second, and fourth grade were asked to indicate the orientation of objects when viewed from another's perspective. The results were analysed to determine if the standard orientations found in drawings of the same objects influenced correct responses or egocentric errors on the perspective task. A lack of significant findings suggests that the standard orientations found in drawings are a product of constructions in that medium rather than a reflection of more general internal images.
