S ummary . This paper reports the results of a study of pupils who had been suspended from school for disciplinary reasons. The results suggest that the pupils were disturbed constitutionally, and presented severe educational problems which were independent of their behaviour. It is argued that these pupils would cause concern at any school, but that variables within their schools were critical in determining whether their behaviour resulted in suspension.
