S ummary .— Ninety‐five pupils participated in an experiment in which two sequence procedures for presentation of text material were varied in relation to two information‐processing strategies used by the pupils. The first variable, text sequence, tested the hypothesis that interrelation of known and unknown information is necessary for the acquisition of new information. Data analysis showed that the ‘web’ condition resulted in better performance on various dependent variables than the ‘linear’ condition on both the post‐test and the retention test. For the second variable, information processing strategy, it was hypothesised that it would influence the acquisition of newly learned concepts. Only a main effect on performance tests was found. There was no interaction effect of the aptitude and treatment variable.
