S ummary . A battery of Piagetian‐type tasks were administered to a sample of 93 English primary school children four times at six‐monthly intervals from an average age of six years as part of a longitudinal study of cognitive development. From a series of scalogram analyses, hierarchies of difficulty were found which were significantly stable from testing to testing in respect of both items and subjects in the sample.
