The present study shows the continued usefulness of the C scale, using two independent samples ( n = 286, n = 276). Following item analysis a shortened 30‐item scale is proposed as an alternative to Wilson's own (1975) revision. Evidence is given that this shortened alternative has high internal reliability, improved relationships with other relevant tests, strong underlying unidimensionality, elegant factorial structure and value in the interpretation of other concepts.
