Changes in optical pupil size in response to emotionally loaded stimuli are mediated by the autonomic nervous system. Eysenck has suggested a relation between autonomic lability and neuroticism. These two items were used to make the prediction that the tendency to give pupillary responses is related to neuroticism. Auditory stimuli were used. Two experiments were undertaken. The hypothesis was supported in each case.
