Summary The Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) at the University of Saskatchewan has, over the past 10 years, developed a cooperative venture with the horse industry in western Canada for financial support of graduate training and research programmes related to the horse. This has been organised through the WCVM Equine Health Research Fund. This paper describes the establishment and development of the fund. It is hoped that the information may be of benefit to others wishing to initiate or enhance similar programmes.
