The Richard Hartley Clinical Prize, sponsored by Arnolds Veterinary Products, was won in 1981 by Mr G. B. Edwards for his paper “Obstruction of the ileum in the horse: A report of 27 clinical cases”, which appeared in the July issue of EVJ for that year on pages 158–166. Mr Edwards used his prize money, together with additional financial support from the British Council and the Royal Veterinary College, to visit Australia, spending most of his time acting as a tutor in a special assignment programme for students completing their veterinary degree course at the University of Murdoch in Western Australia. A report of Mr Edwards' experience during his time at the university is presented here.
