Pre‐Renal Azotaemia in a Pony with an Oesophageal Obstruction

SUMMARY A case of pre‐renal azotaemia is described in a 12 year old pony resulting from oesophageal obstruction of 8 days duration. Blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, calcium, inorganic phosphate, sodium, potassium, chloride and bicarbonate concentrations were monitored throughout the recovery period. After relief of the obstruction normal blood concentrations were quickly restored. RÉSUMÉ Un cas est décrit chez un poney de douze ans qui eut une obstruction oesophagienne durant huit jours. L'urée sanguine, la créatin, la calcémie, la phosphatémie, la natrémie, la kaliémie, la chlorémie et la concentration sanguine de bicarbonate furent contrǒlés durant la convalescence. Les valeurs sanguines revinrent à la normale rapidement. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Ein Fall von praerenaler Azotaemie wird bei einem 12‐jàhrigen Pony beschrieben, das an einem Oesophagus‐Verschluss von achttàgiger Dauer gelitten hat. Harnstoff‐Stickstoff‐, Creatinin‐, Calcium‐, anorganischer Phosphor‐, Natrium‐, Kalium‐, Chlorid‐ und Bicar‐bonatkonzentrationen im Blut wurden wàhrend der Erholungszeit des Ponys genau verfolgt. Nach der Behebung der Obstruktion stellten sich die normalen Blutkonzentrationen rasch wieder her.
