The Treatment of Some Fractures of the Forelimb in the Horse *

SUMMARY Sir Frederick Hobday's service as a Veterinary Officer in the Army Veterinary Corps during the Great War 1914–1918 is recorded. This is followed by a description of the fractures of the distal forelimb which can be treated satisfactorily by surgery, and includes fractures of the carpal, the small metacarpal, the proximal sesamoid bones, the first phalanx and the extensor process of the third phalanx. RÉSUMÉ On rappelle la carrière de Sir Frederic Hobday dans le Service Vétérinaire de l'Armée durant la guerre de 1914–1918. On décrit ensuite les fractures distales du membre antérieur que l'on peut traiter chirurgicalement de manière satisfaisante. Ces fractures comprenent notamment les fractures du carpe, des métacarpiens accessoires, des grands sesamoides, de la première phalange, et de l'éminence pyramidale. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Die Tätigkeit von Sir Frederick Hobday als Veterinäroffizier im Army Veterinary Corps während des Krieges von 1914–18 wird gewürdigt. Es folgt eine Beschreibung von Frakturen an den unteren Vordergliedmassen, die chirurgisch zufriedenstellend behandelt werden können, d.h. Brüche der Carpalknochen, der kleinen Metacarpi, der Gleichbeine, der ersten Phalanx und des Streckfortsatzes der dritten Phalanx.
