Primary Ocular Melanoma in a Young Horse

SUMMARY The clinical features and pathology of an ocular melanoma in a young brown‐grey mare are described. The tumour, possibly arising on the cornea, invaded the eye and extra‐orbital muscles. Histologically; it consisted predominantly of spindle‐shaped and polygonal cells containing melanin. RÉSUMÉ Les caractères cliniques et la pathologie d'un mèlanome oculaire chez une jeune jument grise sont rapportés. Probablement née sur la cornée la tumeur a envahi l'oeil et les muscles extra orbitaires. Histologiquement la tumeur comportait surtout des cellules polygonales renfermant de la mélanine. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Die klinischen Erscheinungen und die Pathologie eines Augenmelanoms bei einer jungen Braunschimmelstute werden beschrieben. Der Tumor befiel‐wahrscheinlich von der Cornea ausgehend‐das Auge und die extra‐orbitale Muskulatur. Histologisch bestand er vor‐wiegend aus spindeligen und polygonalen, melanin‐haltigen Zellen.
